Sexagenarian

by Chris Sorrenti

With the passing of each
sexagenarian
whether friend or celebrity
I get less fearful of
staring down my own mortality
and more accustomed to
laughing at that
elephant in the room
till it shrinks to the size
of a mouse
and I can crush it under
the sole of my foot

Like the wisdom in your poem, Chris. I haven't quite gotten to your place with my Septuagenarian status, although I have a peace about it and all the health challenges that have accompanied it. Your poem gives me a new challenge to be able to laugh at it. A very good place to be indeed. I like the construction of your poem, its simplicity and flow. It's light tone matches the content of its message. Way to go my friend.
