Lee Jun-fan

by Johnny Crimson

His ballet of death
tapped out in time
weighs heavy on my conscience,
spirit, and mind.

The grace with which
he fought for truth
his full expression
we never knew.

He wasn't his exercises,
or styles, physique, or way.
He wasn't these things,
yet it's these things that have stayed.

They linger here
in the archives of my mind,
as Fist of Fury plays on loop
behind my eyes.

I see his fluidity
even when he is still,
he is truly water,
the fulfillment of the will.

Yet I cry here now,
knowing the world will no longer see,
then I quickly rebound
as this man was Bruce Lee.

"No way as a way" he said.
"No limitation as a limitation."
So there is no reason
for this remorseful situation.

He lives on through his art,
his family and fans,
for no one can forget
the life of the Dragon, the Legend, the Man!

I've read other poems about Lee, but yours seems especially evocative. Thanks for the rhymes, they somehow made his removal easier to take. Your poem made me curious about this man and I am going to look him up to learn more about him. Thanks Johnny.
