Nyet Nyet Soviet by Chris Sorrenti
I’ve got Soviets in the cupboard
camouflaged amid my fine K-Mart china
spying on me with their KGB
sending messages home
via East Bloc allies
I’ve got Ruskies in bed
infiltrating my body and mind
looking for a little high technology
to help them pass the time
as everyday they get a little better
at narrowing the gap
in how we protect ourselves from them
I’ve got the Kremlin in my closet
hiding behind my decadent three-piece suits
and though Sting may sing of
how like us they love their children
what does that have to do with world domination?

01/29/2018 Author's Note: Despite the Democracy movement started in the 1980s/90s in the former Soviet Union, Vladimir Putin is shaping up to be just another dictator, or better, Mafia Don, who refuses to relinquish power, and run the country democratically, as we know it in the West.

Posted by Glenn Currier on 02/01/18 at 10:31 PM Your poem expresses the very worst of fears. I agree with you about Putin. And I am even more concerned about what Russia has already done in the U.S. and might do with his ally in the White House. Aside from these content concerns, I also like the occasional internal rhymes. Although I have been writing more traditionally rhyming poems, I prefer the occasional internal rhyme that seem to happen almost without premeditation. Thanks for this, Chris. |
