Philosophy

by Chris Sorrenti

one kind can start a war
another will finish it

can be both personal and universal
simple or complex

quiet and loud
some, taking theirs much too seriously

one can’t hold it in his hand
yet without it, none of us would be here

we bathe in it, drink it down
some, not enough

use it everyday
in the things we do, words we say

quite a marvel this

Chris, you had me hooked all the way through. Forgetting the title momentarily, you had my imagination reeling, holding me in the air of your spacious poem. And upon re-reading it I see myself in the lines, especially the part about "taking theirs much too seriously." The way you wrote this in couplets invites a freedom in the reading, a certain lightness, which, I think, matches your intent. Thanks Chris.

Philosophy like almost any subject one can mention is so large it is nearly impossible to define except in rather broad terms. I like what I see here. I've all was said if you want to know a persons 'philosophy' don't listen much to what he says, just watch what he does! Good write.
