Pathetic Gardens

by Brian Francis

The garden grounds here were once so beautiful
Every gardener lovingly caring for their plants
displaying their own special flowers
visitors walked the paths, pausing to enjoy
to embrace each gardener's unique selection

When an impression was made visitors would stay a while
enjoying the gardener's other beautiful flowers
before moving on, visiting so many little gardens
so neatly laid out and cared for -- clean

Yet now there are weeds on the paths
and many of the gardens have no-one tending them
the gates squeak or fail to allow passage
wrought iron insisting that no man shall pass
too few gardeners come to work their patches
and none who do come, know how to fix the gates

Nice metaphor happening here, Brian. I really like the use of the gates at the end - I've got a good oil can but I don't know how to access the gates. Rats....

Excellent allegory Brian for this place some of us still call home, though with much sadness, recalling how it used to be here.

Hopefully there will be others who come a long and are willing to join our 'garden party of poetry. As long as they realize that the more writers who really participate, bring their own silverware and maybe a great side dish to be read and devoured a little at a time would be of great help. I have taken breaks here before and expect others might want or need to do the same. I'd like to think most people here can accept that.

For one I am shocked at how long it is since I posted, or even wrote, anything resembling poetry, despite having ideas. So I'm trying to tidy up the borders, shift some weeds and cut the grass. Bring your own bottle, put up your feet and make yourself at home. Nibbles available shortly.
