Off The Top Of My Foot

by Philip F De Pinto

The opposite of sitting on a tac
Is stepping on one with my foot
The one I dropped on the floor
Which was meant for the teacher
Given I lived nowhere near a fruit market
To buy her the traditional apple to put on her desk
But I did live near a hardware store
And so the tac made sense
Whereas the apple did not
And so what is a sure flunkie to do
With his bloody foot
But move near a drugstore
So he can procure him a bandaid
Before the pets file in
With their cortlands

The gentle whimsy in this makes me consider where you might have been planning to give the teacher the tac. It is a resourceful student who can find the right gift, and how does one distinguish between self serving pets and good hearts. Perhaps only the apple knows. Thanks, Philip.
