Russian Blues

by Chris Sorrenti

The loss of animal
was certainly cornerstone
to the issue
on the cusp of 2017
searching all the usual places
including my bed
where she used to sleep
the cat was
nowhere to be found

Such sadness
at a time of hope
signalling the end
another chapter in life
though more profound
capturing the tone
certainty
of global change
that purred
all around me

First of all, the title is packed with meaning and your segue from cat to global concerns is well done. I love Russian blue cats but the latest rumblings with the Trump/Putin bromance is certainly disturbing. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope we all don't have a larger one.
