Plastic Migration

by Chris Sorrenti

at this early hour
neighbors peeking out their windows
might think I'm crazy
laughing my way to work

this week’s garbage day
providing its own entertainment
thanks to a gusty wind
more than the geese are heading south

as if tumbleweed wannabes
in a dusty ghost town
an army of white grocery bags
rolling down the street

and what possibly could be on their minds?
hope the place a block or two down
will give them a more secure home?
before the recycling truck
pulls in to scoop them all up

Ha! This really hits a lot of fine notes with me this morning, Chris. The title is perfect but doesn't give anything away. I love the entertainment value here, the "tumbleweed wannabees," the "army of white grocery bags." There's one up in our big ash tree right now, a real go-getter. Thanks, Chris.
