Dancer

by Andrea Colton

And something moved within her,
the beating of a drum.
Bada, bada
Bada, bada;
A pulsing, thrashing,
heart-beat song.

Electricity shot through fingertips,
toes and open fists.
Sinew and muscle tore at bones
to lift them from their rift.

Legs are dying embers,
soul is set aflame.
Her head is held unsteady
-steady-
rocking with the blaze.

"You are nothing."
"...never enough..."
She moves through all the lies.
In the room, she dances.
in her heart, she flies.

Author's Note: A new writing style for me. Simple and straight-forward. I tried it on...it's alright. I won't throw it out just yet :)

Nice work Andrea. Evocative...stimulating read. I can definetly feel the dance in the words.

I love the rising up, re-energizing aspect to this dancer. "She moves through all the lies" - wonderful line of transformation.
