Wedding Vows

by Kristina Woodhill

Leaning toward the outdoor wedding archway
we stretched our minds over ears
around unwritten vows,
the party mic lending some words
swallowing others
spontaneous, messy,
meaning, emotion, great devotion
lots of fights fought through and resolved
we witnessed a mini-series of their years
as a couple creating ties
climbing over top of each other
reaching down through the rubble
pulling out of the spins and heart dives
hand over hand
hand in hand,
a ladder to recovery
seemed always close at feet and grapple,
love driving this, scraped and somewhat crackled
keeping their seat belts in tip-top condition

Author's Note: This marriage of Denise and Cory lasted maybe 2 years. Disastrous and sad. ADHD and alcohol do not mix.

Very well expressed Kristina. Reminds me of a lot of marriages, many that did not survive. Kudos on the fine write!
