And You Were Mine

by Melissa Arel

And you were mine, if only for a little while.

Time stood still and so did my heart
every time you looked at me with those kind eyes.
Eyes that told a thousand stories and I wanted to listen
to every one of them, for they were a part of you.

And you were mine, if only for a moment.

The electricity that coursed through my veins
with every touch of your fingertip was addictive.
You were my drug of choice like coffee, warm and soothing
you awakened me, for I had forgotten how it felt to be loved.

But now I see you were never really mine at all.

This breaks the heart of all who have been there and are still.

Beautiful Melissa. Like the comparison to coffee. Sometimes it just hurts and it's that simple. And it's okay to not be okay. I like how your writing is maturing. Simplicity blended with elegant jolts of sensation. :)
