Ab Incunabulis [revised]

by Clara Mae Gregory

From swaddling clothes

The babes do grow

Suckling wounds

And salving souls

In a new world old.

Author's Note: I am presently reviewing and revising my existing body of work......and I have a notebook full of new phrase fragments and vocabulary studies which I hope to eventually construct into new poetics.

I too like to take a word or phrase that appears, perhaps unbidden, and see where it takes me in a poem. The contrast between suckling wounds and salving souls in interesting. As we grow, we hopefully learn to do both. Thanks Clara.

Would make a good entry poem to a novel, CM. Short...impactful.
