Shading the Painting

by Kristina Woodhill

I admire Mt. Vernon's neighborhood
   deciding to keep itself
     its abodes as under story

their intact aging forest
      overshadowing all aspects
   of blocks and blocks
       of residential life

enter this forest scape
       turning right onto 18th street

sunglasses and hats off
imagination turn-on

here spinning tree rings practiced
          decades of addition
along side every child's simple math

          fairies live here
     gnomes in whimsical hats
       flit behind the massive sequoia
where cousin Larry used to live

a deer could graze here unnoticed

wall clocks' hands idly play cribbage
      forgetting to peg points

intimacy thrives
no one demands a view out

Rich imagery throughout allows for easy light reading. A fun piece to ingest Kristina.

Alternative travelogue & so much more seductive than the usual media sprawl.
