maybe

by Peter Humphreys

maybe a moment
or forever
I sit
on the edge of the bed
as my mind
my heart
my soul
if I have such a thing
flies to the lakes
and hills of Mayo
drab this time
I know
in late winter
early spring
when life is slowly
emerging from the dark
and buds lift hope
for me
as young lambs
suckle and leap
staggering on the
brown wet bog

flying still
my mind
takes me to
Downpatrick Head
where seas always
lash and spit
spume up its
hidden creaks
'twixt heather
you were there then
in my life
not just a dream
a reminiscence
a deep deep memory but
maybe a moment
or forever

this is captivatingly beautiful and truly enchants me where I live, particularly the last stanza.

You make memories come to life. Those first and last two lines capture the mysteries of time as our minds try to hold on. Thanks for this.
