Pushing My Envelope by Chris Sorrenti
I’ve always existed here
living, not the appropriate word
bouncing between
nirvana and comatose
the mind obsessive
soul, forgiving
body, not so willing
to pay the toll of accomplishment
shutting down
without my approval
sleep, an inconvenience
eating, only slowing me down
On the job
I work twice as hard
to fool time
into speeding my arrival home
fatigue, as always
balanced precariously
by the factor of fun
and knowledge -
tomorrow, I may not be here
to reap the rewards
of pushing my envelope
