Massaging Heroes by Kristina Woodhill
Tittillating
To think
Mr. Rogers'
Sweaters
Kept his
Tattoos
From his
Touted
Military years
Tacitly tamed over
Kookookachoo
To consider
Captain Kangaroo
In charge
At Iwo Jima,
He and Lee Marvin
Keeping
Chaos
From
Capturing
Their
Courageous
Comrades
Husband's
Gullible,
Goofy
Buddies
Make claims
Like Enquirer
Devotees,
Online info
In two eager eyes,
Completely missing
Snopes' connections
In the local gym
Their
One ounce
RC planes
Motor casually,
Playing air dodge ball
With walls and raised baskets,
Gleaming waxed floors,
Stratosphere high ceilings
Every imaginable
Battery-powered
War plane,
Wright Flyer,
Rubber band bound-
and-gagged, slow high soarer
Cruise
This concourse
Retired
Science teachers
Electricians
Computer gurus
Airline pilots
Many Vietnam war survivors
Helicopter crashees included
A fine crew,
Eager to share plane patterns,
Glue sticks and pliers,
Transmitter tips,
Hours of comaradery
And ridiculous news items
Echoing off the bleachers
Alliteration in this aging auditorium
Brave men holding on,
Back-up batteries close at hand

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 01/27/16 at 11:45 PM Fun read Kristina. I had no idea Mr Rogers had tattoos, nor that he and Captain Kangaroo were in the military, though not surprising when one thinks about it. All in all, as an ex air force brat loved the military/aviation slant of this.
Posted by George Hoerner on 01/28/16 at 01:45 AM I knew about their military careers. Loved the poem!
Posted by Laura Doom on 02/16/16 at 01:45 PM I know nothing of the military, but I do recognise a playful assault on the senses.
