Yuletide Villanelle by Kristina WoodhillA string of lights unwound begins its glow
Tall evergreens provide supporting height
I look for their reflections in the snow
From closet's hidden boxes come some bows
The cobwebs brushed aside like flimsy fights
A string of lights unwound begins its glow
Small sacred figures, chipped, I place down low
A flash of father's face, a startling sight
I look for his reflection in the snow
The wreath you send each year I cherish so
Our front door feature, such a welcome sight
A string of lights unwound begins its glow
Burl Ives regales with songs of Ho Ho Ho
As Rudolph shines his nose for Santa's flight
I laugh at their reflections in the snow
Old tiny Christmas village shares its show
I search for faces long since blinked from sight
A string of lights unwound begins its glow
I yearn for their reflections in the snow

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 12/31/15 at 04:03 PM I agree with Dawn...Christmas magic in words. The Burl Ives Rudolf is one of my favorite childhood memories, along with Snoopy's Christmas...so much so that I bought the DVD. Season's best Kristina! |
