Olympic Speed Skaters

by Chris Sorrenti

the mirror sits horizontal
     unbreakable
athletes riding
     the long claws
two by two    steel lick
hurtling only three to medal
     and upward
Zeus refracted   reflecting
     fists clenched
     and a   ?

Author's Note: Sometimes, the shortest poems create the biggest challenge in terms of getting the message as close to perfect as possible. I was going to post this one earlier today, but after a couple of reads, saw things I didn't like in it.

The horizontal mirror is a very cool way to describe the rink. Love the "long claws" and the "reflecting fists clenched". I'm not sure what to do with the end??
