by Sarah George

It's breathtaking
how heavy

This is puzzling in a good way. First I read it literally and it sounded like something written in the aftermath of a tragedy. Then I read it connecting "diamond" (and its connotations) with "best friend" and it sounded like a divorce. Ditto on Jim's comment. Much strength in this piece's brevity...only says enough. Well done.

...the last time makes me think of the first time and the times in-between...and I like how I immediately see a casket, but that's not even there...and I see all sorts of images...but this finally for me ended up being an ode to the last day of a cheerleader's career, because why not.

Love the metaphor and the crushing implication.
