The Right of Way

by V. Blake

the road is slick
with gasoline
rippling out
from treads;
the windshield is
cracked,
the headlights
are black,
and it smells
like hospital beds.

Nicely expressed V. Reminds me of a recent accident in Toronto in which a grandfather and three of his grandchildren were killed by a drunk driver. The grandmother remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Man, this short piece is full of depth and horror and inner struggles. Love the short, quick rhyming lines, provocative title, the unsaid. Thanks!
