Repost: Apostrophe by Paul Lastovica
In the wake of awakening
a dim bulb of light
in the thickening carpet
held feet
only a sliver separates
the dream ‘ the real
a draft of a whisper
is set to shatter upon
the first degree above freezing
It may have been,
there was something there
a cyclical power struggle
between an upper & lower hand
a desire for rain, bare skin,
pumped blood, palm to palm
breath into breath into the bowl of an ear
absent of accord
the lips spell out shapes for entrance
mist into mist , tongue onto tongue
-
In the wake of awakening
the sense of concurrent realities
a shard of glass is maybe still sand
If only on a molecular scale
the ring of an impact crater
equals the ring on a finger
the circumference of a pupil
an island becomes an apostrophe
between two bodies of water
a thought is set in motion
That inner space is as infinite as outer space
life in the pockets between micrometers
each finger-print a whorl of galaxies
each atom a star, each person
a moon, each nation a planet
all in numbers beyond rational comprehension
the contour of knuckles
a mountain-range
