Standing Ground by Kristina WoodhillLive!
Live!
Live!
Bawled in the fenced yard
Bawled bouncing off house siding
Bawled unheard by sleeping family
Bawled echoing down the street
On democratic air waves
shrugging this way and that
Unconcerned
Death in a back yard, leaned against the fence
Easy finding hungry minds to do the dirty, dirty work
In broad day light
In broad day light
Bawled like a goat
With a dog on its neck
Dripping red neck
Bawled
Standing
Its bare,
Hot ground
Bawled for the shepherd
Bawled for his crook
Kill!
Thrill!
Kill!
Thrill oh thrill!
Unschooled German Shepherd
Held on held on held on held
Couple on a morning walk
Pounding on a door
Pounding on a window
Hurling rocks
Hurling curses
Hurling crazed concern
Death leans in
Easy when they sleep
Easy when they mix
Young hunter
With meat
And the house door opens
And the man rushes out
Pulling on his pants
Wild tame eyes
Gasping understanding
Rounding the corner
As the goat goes down

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 07/09/15 at 03:11 PM Very well written, Kristina. Not sure I get the story, but I take it some sort of dog mauling? |
