CITIZENSHIP

by Linda Fuller

Climbing up out of the ooze
I sensed my fins evolving into legs.
Thoroughly delighted by this turn of events
I sprinted off into the Devonian Period.
Zoologically speaking, I was a tetrapod,
Even though of a seven-toed branch doomed to extinction.
Naturally, my five-toed brethren bullied me,
Slinging mud, ooze, sly innuendo, and
Harsh words. Still and all,
I was a proud citizen of the
Paleozoic Era.

Much different than expected by the title... but then I should have expected that coming from you :) Timely.

A life long fan of all things prehistoric, I really enjoyed your poem Linda.

Darwin updated with a twist...one wonders if the transformation required some kind of oath and a promise to be a good citizen going forward!

Great acrostic, Linda.

I like your method of sprinting off into another Period, the sly comment on bullying those who are different, and a very well done acrostic. Thanks, Linda.
