My Bed Is Lonely Without You

by Melissa Arel

I lay there listening
to the gentle hum of the fan
I turn and see an empty space
where your body should've been.
An indent in the pillow,
a ruffling of the sheets
I still smell your cologne
where our bodies used to meet.

Oh, the way our skin used to touch
whispers of longings, dreams,
and "I love you so much"
They echo against the wall
the words, they fall to the ground
Memories of what it was like
when you still wanted me around.

Like a bird you've flown away,
a persistent desire to roam
This place felt like a cage to you,
when all I wanted was to make you a home.

Lovely poem, Melissa. Good use of rhyme to help deliver the message and impact. Glad you could finally log in to Pathetic.

You have been missed, Mel, and this poem is a sterling example of the depth of feeling you brought - and bring -to your poetry and your senses.
