Sister Time by Chris Sorrenti for Nadine
You are a sistered watch
jeweled with memories
giving past present and future
on a moment’s notice
A lift to hospital
for a pulled ligament
riding side by side
eight years separating
your wrist from mine
often forgotten
our bonding
But if time could run backward
hours become years
past your husband
teen magazine infatuation
and further still
to temper tantrum
then again we can see
Me pushing you in stroller
down long lost streets
in a small town
that exists now
only in eternity
Now you're the one driving
stroller wheels transformed
into steel belt radials
hospital
only seconds away

Posted by Kris Mara on 04/22/15 at 03:43 PM quite a journey and portrait of time and this relationship...I love how you use time throughout this introspective piece...this is one of those things that, as I read, the room just goes quiet (if that makes sense)...you have a way of focusing your words and intent so well that I always appreciate. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 04/22/15 at 07:13 PM I really enjoyed the transitional phrasing in this. |
Posted by LK Barrett on 04/23/15 at 05:29 PM I was struck by both the absolute presence of time, and the acknowledgment of a deep familial experience of its passing. You do leave me wanting more, Chris, always. Thank you for the write. lk |
