If On An Old Gray Day by Philip F De Pinto
If on an old gray day
I get down on my knees
Perhaps a prayer may come of it?
But to whom will I pray
If it comes to that?
And if it does not
How foolish one will appear
On an old gray day
To be down on his knees
While all stand and mock
And say fool!
To whom do you pray?
As a way of saving myself
The embarrassment
I put one knee up and say
That I am praying to no one
But I am pleading
Your collective hand
In marriage

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 04/12/15 at 07:29 PM Pleaing for a hand in marriage and recognizing a need for prayer may have its connection! Glad I can pray and know to whom I pray. And God answers in His inimitable way. |

Posted by Nadia Gilbert Kent on 04/21/15 at 07:43 PM It's a tall order, but more honest than the former, I reckon. The pacing of this is nothing short of perfection. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 04/27/15 at 08:44 PM I know nothing of prayer, but I suspect that many of those who mock also pray, though probably not for forgiveness in mocking those contending with 'old gray days'--itself a perfect conjunction of disposition and situation. |
