Alone, I Eat with Dirty Hands

by Leonard M Hawkes

Alone, I eat with dirty hands,
There is no common eye;
Guilt subdued, and choice my own,
Nor heart, nor hand need lie.

Alone, I eat with dirty hands;
With justice in due time--
Meted by Eternity
Its punishment divine.

Quite a thought provoking piece, especially the title line and possible meanings.
