Waiting to happen by Laura DoomEdgar had never shone as a child;
his father appeared to move in circles
way beyond his mundane sphere.
Blinded by absence, Edgar worshipped
his father's shadow and slept
in the warmth of his shade.
At the moment of total eclipse
Edgar bathed in pure enlightenment.
It was his one experience of unnatural
darkness in the light of day, of his days
married to the woman who had mothered him
since birth; he wanted more,
more of the flagrant insight
that lit his vacant smile.
And he stared--stared until the last
glimmer of dark had faded.
Inflamed by this unforeseen revelation,
Edgar threw open the door to his future,
stumbled out into the world
and, in the specious blink of an eye
found himself on the road to paradise. 03/21/2015 Author's Note: Partial: 2015-04-20: 50.7/1.92
