The Impossibility of Becoming Small by Alison McKenzieShow me how to become small,
How to invoke the kindnesses
Of those who would protect.
Because when you're a giant,
The heroes are hidden
In the shadows produced
By bulk.
The more luminous the light,
The darker the shadows.
And I am obscured
In plain view
Like a mountain
That cannot be moved.
And no one sees me,
The rivers of my weeping
Mistaken for peace.
Shrink me.
I need to be held. 03/20/2015 Author's Note: I miss Charlie. Charlie would say something beautiful.

| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 03/21/15 at 01:04 AM Incredibly poignant, Ali. "And I am obscured
In plain view
Like a mountain
That cannot be moved." - my favorite stanza. Thanks! |
| Posted by A. Paige White on 03/22/15 at 08:01 PM I enjoyed the poem but I love the authors note most of all. I miss him too. |
| Posted by Glenn Currier on 12/19/17 at 04:12 PM I like the images that you use to describe your need to be small enough to be held. I guess the Charlie you speak of is Charlie Morgan. I miss him too. Every time I make my way into these pages I think of him. It is so good to be back here and to read your work, Alison. Thanks you for this wonderful work. |
