Deciduous Calling

by Chris Sorrenti

playing host and guest
to only myself
it’s this way occasionally
I must retreat
to regain sanity’s throne

the moon of introversion
eclipses the extravert sun

got a book of numbers
I know again I’ll phone
though today
what exists outside these walls
might as well be in another dimension
this social disease
of my own making
happily in remission

revolving around the quiet side
of my own deciduous calling

I know this 'strategic withdrawal', a parallel cyclical scenario that strikes like a power outage. I like your selective dissection for illustration here.

"playing host and guest to only myself" - a clever gathering of one here, Chris. I know this feeling well and I'm not even from a big city. Loved these lines also -"the moon of introversion eclipses the extravert sun". Nicely done.

You express a universal here I believe. Perhaps most have both an introverted and extroverted element to our personalities. When one far dominates it is good to do some introspection. Bring some balance. Great writing.

Having folded my insights into a small cardboard box many times and retreated from the world - albeit briefly - I can so relate to this gem, Chris!
