A Heart's Desire

by Chris Sorrenti

I wanted to sing a song about love
but first had to clear my soul
then closing eyes
fell back into creation
safe again inside her womb

I wanted to die from happiness
but it wasn't yet my time
I'd done no crime
to deserve the ocean of fire
it was eternal bliss I sought instead

I wanted to sing a song about love
but got sidetracked in the process
oh well no matter
plenty of time left to plant skies with roses
show the children of hatred and jealousy
the proper way to go

I would become the lover of lovers
if I had to
give each man woman and child
that special caress
that only a clean spirit could give
and surely then the omnipresent lover
would smile his everlasting goodness
upon me

I wanted to sing a song about love
but instead wrote a poem
one and the same in all but name
alas my time had finally come
and yes I had a song
...a lover

Love in attitude, love in expression, ahh, then there is love in connection! Well said. St. Paul said there is faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I'm not sure that even love could make me clean but it sure adds the feeling that there might be some meaning to existence.

This seems truly inspired, Chris, a flow and momentum that captures the imagination.
