Empty Page by Chris Sorrenti
Remember the pledge made to yourself
as a boy growing into a man
only fifteen
trading childhood fears
for the monsters of adulthood
playing chicken with an empty page
Push the first domino
and the rest will fall
no sense complicating a simple thing
it’s just high school physics put into action
scraped across an empty page
And you can close your eyes
even look away
but when you open them
it’ll still be there
a pen with its cap off
ink slowly drying
with an empty page sitting underneath
So go ahead
take the colours of life
process them through your soul and mind
no matter how much at times you may dislike it
the circle will only finish once it’s begun
the endless cycle of creation and destruction
painted on an empty page

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 01/08/15 at 12:39 PM I like this poem written in 1982 very much. there is much truth in it. it speaks what most of us understand about circles needing completion, lest we be deemed square. |
