Amazing things can happen when you let yourself not care so much When you let yourself stand among the rest not being worst or being best Find yourself that special pill that makes you feel a better man Walking taller strolling smartly being confidently who I am Shades of purple start the day as shadows stretching flee the sun The morning comes and life erupts the gong has rung the day’s begun Passing by the others as they go about keep droning on Hurriedly accomplishing their tasks and chores and time goes on Like a pinball bouncing ‘round among the forces of the day Unerring in my trajectory scoring big along the way Pharmaceutical amendments to my otherwise imperfect self Enable me to be among the freaks and morons surrounding me Then to home and solitude to share the stories of my day The dog attends me listens to me say the things I need to say Dinner on the patio the view of sunset bold and bright The colors changing rapidly the kaleidoscopic play of light As darkness falls I find myself immersing in a virtual world Never caring what is said or done because it isn’t real A pill or two to help me off and on my way to never never land I close my eyes lay on my side and wait for him to bring me sand

"Enable me to be among the freaks and morons surrounding me" My advice: Realize you are one too.
Nice work Brian. I can especially relate to that last couplet.
Some pretty fine rhyming in this piece. Sad to think of pills as our constant companions, but this poem certainly gives a glimpse of our society at the moment.
