Wired For Sound by Chris Sorrenti
rhythm and lead rift
I used to play the guitar
thought I’d go far
but the needle done pulled me away
used to play the drums
had lots of fun
but the coke done ate out my nose
and I got wired
yes so wired
but I got tired of living with my feet off the floor
I used to play the keyboards
used to win me awards
but the booze done gave me away
used to play saxaphone
made it whail and moan
but the acid done ate out my brain
and I got wired
yes so wired
but God knows I couldn’t play a single chord
And now I’m wired
yes still wired
but this time I’m wired for sound
back - on - line - a - second - time
but this time I’m wired for sound
rhythm and lead rift
So time went by
I fell out of the sky
let the cobwebs clear out of my head
gave it all up
though I’d never play again
but it wasn’t long
I heard the call
found myself reaching for long lost friends
And now I’m wired
yes still wired
but this time I’m wired for sound
back - on - line - a - second - time
but this time wired for sound
No more drugs!
I say back - on - line - a - second - time
but this time I’m wired for sound
repeat last two verses and fade
with previous rhythm and lead rift

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 09/25/14 at 01:11 PM this poem speaks powerfully, Chris. I don't know what attracts talent to drugs, but so many moths were sacrificed in that flame. Its a shame. I see you date all your poems, which I never got into the habit of doing. And whatever happened to Don Campbell? Miss the gentleman. His poetry as well. |
