The Earthen Coin

by Chris Sorrenti

It's never too late to turn the humus
Never too late to make the dirt shine
Why let forest yield to desert?
Spread the sod of the Earthen coin

Success and failure are a deciduous cycle
In answer to an external call
Yet we make our fortune from the inside
In search of the Earthen coin

Some spend their lives looking for treasure
While it's sitting underneath their thumb
Love and happiness fleeting as Canada Geese
Migrating to the shimmer of the Earthen coin

I enjoyed this, Chris. Earthen coin is a unique phrase, and as you spin it ;) here, gives alternatives (flip sides?) to our future. I liked the use of "deciduous cycle" and the last two lines are especially interesting as you use the migration idea.
