Summer haiku by Jim Benzflat on my back
nursing what ails me
first day of summer
somewhere
a cardinal sings to his love
somewhere else
summer solstice
the mosquitoes on my feet
mostly dying
maybe blue skies
can make me smile
longest day
basking
in the summer sun
an empty beer can
"out of darkness
the light is born"
summer solstice 06/23/2014 Author's Note: These are all pretty much off the cuff--I seem to have very little energy for editing (or, for that matter, writing ...)

| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 06/24/14 at 03:58 AM 2 & 3 are my favs, especially the feet with mosquitoes mostly dying. First day using the AC here. Neighbors left a big sack of Bing cherries on the front step. Raccoons ate our few on our young cherry tree. Somehow it all balances out. Oh, first cherry dipped scone on the season. I think that about covers it. :) |

I have a question, when you started writing this ode, was that empty can o' beer full? or is that empty can a metaphor for poets no longer at lagerheads with themselves, but at peace? |
