Memorial Day Tribute

by Quentin S Clingerman

To brothers two
I remember your service in World War II
I salute you
You have gone to your eternal reward
On Earth your honorable service is remembered

Kermit, second brother, enlisted in the Navy to avoid the Army
Served on the USS Franklin, aircraft carrier;
Nearly went down when attacked off the coast of Japan
Limped home, Kermit came home on leave.
After discharge, attended college, married and raised a family.

Richard, oldest brother, joined the Army, served in the Cavalry
Went to Europe at the ending of fighting to help in cleaning up after all the devastation.
Returned home to attend college (one year), took correspondence courses to become draftsman;
Married and raised a family.

You served with honor and distinction. I salute you in loving memory.

Author's Note: I also salute a third brother, Lynn, who served in Vietnam. He lives in retirement with his wife. They reared three children.

And a fine tribute/glimpse into your family, Quentin. One to be proud of, especially on Memorial Day. Did you serve in the military also?

It's good to know they were able to contribute and made it back. Thanks for this, Que.
