Note to Myself by Chris Sorrenti
my life is just one big Post-it
furniture, walls and floors at home
bear the traces of their semi sticky residue
different colors for various priorities
white says procrastinate as long as I like
yellow means I still have a week or so
pink is for appointments
turquoise - jobs around the house
that never seem to get started
thanks to all the other Post-it notes
orange for grocery lists
stuck to the fridge
with the help of a pizzeria magnet
a pad of each color stacked by the phone
including red to say
this scribbling should have been done a week ago
was a time at work
I couldn’t see my computer screen
for all the Post-it decorations
the boss would just laugh and shake his head
his own desk buried beneath layers of them
then one day I discovered our MS Outlook
has a feature called Notes
shaped in what else? but a little yellow sticky
a limitless supply at the click of a mouse
I’ve since been promoted
truth is can’t trust my short-term memory
could it be all that pot I smoked in my youth?
or maybe my life is turning out to be
just one long pad of senior moments?
but judging by the way Post-it sells out at the Office Depot
I’m not the only one with too much to remember
so if you’re still questioning 3M’s greatest invention
since Scotch tape
well in all honesty this poem wouldn’t have been written
if not for the crumpled one
I’ve been carrying in my valise for months
stuck to the day planner I never use
I’ll let you guess what color it was written on

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 04/07/14 at 06:36 PM LOL!! Like the deprecating humor of this poem about the all too human condition. (Sometimes when I go someplace when I get there I have to stop and think about why I went there! lol) |
Posted by Laura Doom on 04/08/14 at 06:02 PM Does 3M make a rainbow stack--if so I'd guess a note of many colours for this refractive piece. Perhaps you could edit this to have it presented on a 'crumpled' background image... |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 04/08/14 at 07:08 PM Good one. I wouldn't remember what the different colors mean! I also enjoyed the humor in this and pondering how complicated we can make our lives. Thanks, Chris. |
