Sacred by Jody PrattIt isn't but a twisted piece of metal,
wrapped liquidity; ironically
representing matrimony, yet
traded in for money - often easily
at the first sign of adversity.
It is not surprising really,
inevitably if you equate
objects to harmony
and weddings to eternity
you're only bound to folly.
We utter vows lovingly or
reluctantly, occasionally and
look into each others eyes
passionately, to tell endless truths
or utter lies.
We hold hands intimately, holding
breaths anticipating, nervously
a kiss that seals destiny;
Is it everything we've been imagining,
or to be a disappointing ending? 04/03/2014 Posted on 04/03/2014 Copyright © 2024 Jody Pratt

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 04/04/14 at 12:19 PM till death us do part? I remember uttering those words. I meant them. I stuck by them. Death us did part. I was married thirty four years when my wife passed into eternity. I believe in marriage. I believe two people who love each other, can remain wedded for as long as they wish, provided they continue to exercise that muscle called Love. Yes, Love is a muscle as is poetry a muscle in need of daily maintenance. And it appears to me, Jody that you have been exercising your poetic muscle as is clearly illustrated in this ode. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 04/05/14 at 10:38 PM Matrimony does have a certain ring to it; abstention reminds us we don't know what we're missing.
Good question, to be continued... |
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 04/07/14 at 06:48 PM You pose a serious problem in the view of marriage. I agree with Philp. My wife and I were married 38 and a half years before her death. Dealing with her death was so difficult I decided not to consider marriage again. |
