For Sissies by Philip F De Pinto
Where have you been?
Crying. Crying? Yes crying!
I hadn't realized crying was a place
But a state of mind? You may think it
A state of mind but you will find
It otherwise. An actual location in fact.
And where have you been? Drying.
Drying. Yes drying! I hadn't realized drying was a place
But a state of mind? You may think it
A state of mind but you will find it otherwise.
An actual location in fact.
And so two continued to ask themselves
Where each had been? Which was the desert.
Which is no state of mind but an actual location.
In which the pair are engrossed and lost.
In which one will continue to cry and in so doing
Will be fortunate to imbibe on his own tears. While one
Continued drying of thirst. Unfortunate for him
Given he was told when young by elders that crying is for sissies.
And what do elders know of deserts? Or of sissies who never die of thirst
No matter how arid the place in which they are engrossed and lost.
