Stone Snowmen [version 1] by Clara Mae Gregory
Stone men tantalize the shoreline-
The totemic temporal tributes
Draped with a Tanzanite skyline
where their shadows lie so mute
before blending into the nighttime.
01/08/2014 Author's Note: *This was the first version in a rhyming style, based on notes of raw material I scribbled as we traveled. Later, it developed into version 2, a more developed version without a rhyme scheme. The poems can be read literally, but they are actually meant more as metaphor.
*Tanzanite is one of my birthstones and is beautiful. Discovered in the late 1960s in Tanzania, and found exclusively in this tiny area of the world, tanzanite exhibits a rich dark blue to violet-blue color for which the gemstone is treasured.

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 01/08/14 at 09:35 PM A poetic interpretation of a natural phenomena. Like very much the use of alliteration.
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 01/10/14 at 03:08 AM I especially like the draping you have given these totems.
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 02/03/14 at 03:19 PM you probably are not the first person to notice these stone men but I am certain you are the first to write a poem in which they are the central characters and if only stone men had eyes they'd be amazed what has been written about them in so sensitive and creative a manner.
