Excitement is a
Remnant from my youth
An emotion that has been shelved
And forgotten behind
Stacks of philosophical doctrines
Thoughts that once held importance
To a promising student.

Don’t think I’m jaded
Or someone less than a grump
It’s just that things are much clearer now
And we cannot afford fairy tales
In these blasted lands.

wonderful ode, Uriel. you have this remarkable way of sizing things up and compacting them down to palatable size. the thing I've noticed about fairy tales is that when we can afford them, we quickly lose interest. I think it is the reason we no longer live in the Garden of Eden, in that it was just too darn affordable, and so we got booted out on purpose, because it was more preferable to pay the more outlandish rent living in the real world. what can I say, but we have arrived, contrary to what philosophy teaches us, at an age where the more we are ripped off, the better we like it. it becomes us, to be ripped off, so to speak. I suppose it is in our DNA, to purchase and worship things we could least afford in this blasted world.

Superbly expressed and easily relatable. I find as I get older it becomes more and more difficult to find passion and interest in things that once gave me hours of joy, including writing.
