Albrecht

by Philip F De Pinto

Durer's graphite hands
Are clasped in prayer
But for what are they praying?
For the things you don't have
And wish you had
Or for the things you have
And wish you had not?
And are praying that they
Simply go away

But where would they go?
The things that you have
And no longer wish to have
If such things could go away with prayer?
Except that prayers are never
For determining where;
Only that they go away

indeed, what do we pray for and what do we pray without and do we care where our troubles may go? if energy can not be destroyed, can prayer serve to transmute it? wonderfully philosophical piece.

or is it simply that we pray for the strength to endure the things we wish we didn't have and not pray them gone

Quite clever Mr. Pinto. Really enjoyed this for its playfulness mixed with serious message.
