I Dig This by Kristina WoodhillI cannot peel your purple skin
Though just beneath
Invited in
I know I'd find
Bold Julienne,
Strips long and firm
Each tenderling
An eager moist
Participant
In bubble baths
Of oil, wherein
Your dermis
Smooth,
So porcelain
Would seal
Reveal propensities
For dipping
Sauces
Diving in
I cannot peel your purple skin
I cannot peel your purple skin
Though sharply
Quartered
Soaking in
A gentle simmer
You'd begin
Your steady
Morphic
Softening
While sunlight
Warmed its buttered self
Awaiting
Cream
Both soon
Whipped in
As mounds
Of fluffy
Mouthfuls
Spin
I cannot peel your purple skin
I cannot peel your purple skin
I've said it quite enough
A sin
To spoil
A sin
To flay
A sin
To boil
So whole
Is what
Will win
This day
This spud
That makes
Me sputter
Me and
Sungold
Melted
Butter
Both will
Bide and take
Our time
While
Purple you
From skin
To heart
Will bake

Author's Note: Grew purple skinned potatoes for the first time. Beautiful.

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 09/06/13 at 01:20 PM Kris, I love how you can turn working in the garden or the kitchen into such a fun fullfilling experience both for yourself and we the readers. I cook for myself, so I can relate to the fun part of it, and eating! With a glass of Cabernet-Merlot. :) |
