Jim Morrison

by Dan Linn

I want to be Jim Morrison,
and brood sensual.
magnetic gravitas,
significant in scowl,
stance like toreador,
joust without armor
the bull of convention,
like a mythic dragon.

I would throw myself,
in drunken poet fit,
without deserving it,
thumbing my nose
at the moral codes,
rubbing my belly,
my own personal
fat stoned Buddha.

And sing for you,
not knowing how well,
words so direct
and phosphorescent,
as to light water on fire,
in sparkles out my ass,
I want to be Jim Morrison
just to make love to you.

Author's Note: Done over again, i would have been a more magnificent asshole.

I've enjoyed reading and re-reading this one the last couple of days. Power runs through these words - the whole rubbing your own belly as Buddha is delightful - words that sparkle, very cool!

Like Kristina, I have read this several times over the past couple of days and....I just keep on enjoying it. I find myself wishing the author's note were somehow a part of the poem. Having known several men who have wished to be Jim Morrison, I am experiencing your poem in a variety of ways! Nicely done.

As a long time fan of Jim Morrison and The Doors, I really like and enjoyed what you've done here, Dan. Neat how you've fit in some key elements from their history. I've got the soundtrack from the movie, The Doors. Great album, Roadhouse Blues, among my favorites. Thanks for sharing this.
