Green Shoes

by Thomas K. Hunt

I sold all your green shoes
No other shade would ever do
You knew how to choose
You figured you had nothing to lose
Now you're barefoot in the park
Barefoot in the dark
You lost all your green shoes
Nothing you can do will bring them back
I sold them all on you
I sold them by the sack
It was the easiest thing to do
You'll never get them back
I'm gonna sell my house in town
Time to retire the crown
You can stop by any time
Salvage what you can find

The time is ticking
It's time to slip away
We need to find ourselves
We need to find a way
Look all around you
There's nothing for you here
Open your eyes
You'll see it very clear

I sold all your green shoes
No other shade would ever do
You always knew what to choose
Never wanted to lose
But you lost all your green shoes
They were sold by the dozen in your own yard sale
With just one color to choose
They went door to door and through the US mail
We kept on trying but every time we've failed
We had everything to lose
Every morning that ship just sailed
Without me and you
You hid your secrets in those green shoes
You hid them well from me
It took the cost of all those heels
Now all your secrets are free

Well the time is ticking
It's time to slip away
We need to find ourselves
We need a better way
Look around you
There's nothing here my dear
Open your eyes
You'll see it all to clear

I sold all your green shoes
No other shade would ever do
You always thought you knew how to choose
You always figured you had nothing to lose
Are you barefoot in the park?
I can't tell it in the dark
I sold them all on you
There's nothing you can do
Now it's time to just let go
It's the right thing to do
Say goodbye to those shoes

Loved every bit of this - only sad I can't hear some accompanying music.

I hear the yearning for connection, a sense of familiarity mixed with alienation... that's what I hear... Thanks.
