Hands by George Hoernergive me your hand
and i’ll take it in mine
as a sign of acceptance
of you as a person
with all the intricacies,
idiosyncrasies, and
inconsistencies that
we all face
i will hold it and
not let go because
the wind blows
in the wrong direction
or you trip and fall
i’ll try to keep our balance
when i’m losing my own
i will listen to the issues present
no answers forth coming
nor judgments made
for your wrongs are ones
i have made and your
indiscretions are less
than mine
we both judge ourselves
to harshly and take on
the sins of others
if you have been wronged
i will stand up for you
not point and laugh
for your tears are mine
both wet with hurt
we did not cause
you will stay in my heart
even if you push me away
for my hand will stretch far
and will be here if
you return
