Toast (w/supplemental info)

by Clara Mae Gregory

Dog-eared Deceit Deadpan I’s
Possess the Lechers in the Wry
Chasing Children to the Cliffs
Pushing off their Innocence
Down to where the Wounded die
In the Land of the Blind
Where a one-eyed man is king
To the truths of silencing,
The fille de joie of lies,
That corrupted
The catchers in the rye.

Thanks for the supplemental information Clara Mae. I didn't know what to make of this piece when I first read it yesterday. I also found the capitalization of words in the text distracting. Perhaps some expansion including some of the facts in your author`s note. All in all, thought provoking and evocative.

Very interesting - lots of symbolism. I would tighten up those last two lines by deleting "that", changing corrupted to Corrupting, finishing the last line as "Catchers in the rye." Lines 2-4 are my favorites.
