Influential Influenza by Chris Sorrenti
this year
a gift from Australia
Sydney, to be precise
that’s what the experts say
landing unwelcome
in my sinuses and throat
an unscheduled vacation
spent exploring the sofa
nose running faster than Niagara Falls
keeping the tissue industry in business
for at least a week
parts of my body
that have never ached before
left eye, gums, to be exact
enough acetaminophen
to fell an elephant
barely smoothing the rough edges
of my annual appointment
with the latest mutation

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 01/15/13 at 02:29 PM Sounds horrible, only softened by seeing the poem date, and hoping this was truly in that past. May the shot keep it at bay this year! Enjoyable read - exploring the sofa - great line. |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 01/15/13 at 11:27 PM Hope you are better. Thank G-d; I USUALLY don't get sick- no flu shot- I just seem not to get these flus-not complaining- At least you got a great poem out of it. Take care! |

Posted by Christel Crews on 01/18/13 at 03:12 AM what a great and horrid explanation! i've had the flu twice in my life, and you have described it well.. something i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy! stay healthy! eat an orange every day and wash your hands! |
