he converses with himself

by Philip F De Pinto

he has no one to speak with
so he converses with himself
which is a fruitless thing to do
given himself does not understand he
given he and himself speak a different language
neither of which the other understands
but still it is comforting for he to speak to himself
though he has a great yearning to be understood
and it is comforting as well for himself to hear
what he has to say though there is no meaning
to be grasped by himself in such discourse
and still the hope resides in he and himself
that one day they will arrive at understanding
perhaps via the interpreter which is love
come into their lives in the nick of time
to bear fruit and multiply in each
an understanding of each

This clearly brings to mind "love that surpasses all understanding", Philip. Thank you.
